Enjoy Your Outdoor Space All Year Long With Wood Garden Benches

Summer, with its long days and warm evening, is a great time to plan outdoor gatherings or just sit outside and relax. By creating a durable and pleasant outdoor space, you can enjoy being outside during fall, winter and spring as well. A solidly built garden bench can help you create a pleasant all-weather environment.

Some wood garden benches are designed to be used all year round. The smell of burning leaves, brisk temperatures and the change of colors are all part of the fall season. Spending an afternoon outside with a new book or good company is a great way to enjoy the season. Wood garden benches are a great way to relax and enjoy the day.

Although not usually thought of as being a good time to be outside, winter can actually be the perfect time for outdoor relaxation and contemplation. Many people, in fact, put all of their outdoor furniture into storage before the first blast of winter hits.

Wood garden benches can enable you or your children to spend less time cooped up inside the house and more time frolicking outside.

Spring is perhaps the most perfect time to spend outdoors. With the onset of spring, one can enjoy mild temperatures, blue skies and flowers beginning their journey towards color.

If the idea of wood garden benches appeals to you, take your time to shop for some that suit your requirements. Properly built wood garden benches should be comfortable, durable, attractive, and weather-resistant. If your bench will be outside during all four seasons, you may want to consider the following before making your purchase:

Consider the type of wood the bench is made with. For wet spring weather and frigid cold winter days, teak is an ideal choice in wood. Teak is an exotic wood found mainly in countries outside of the United States, although Panama has become an attractive area for teak growers. Teak is well known for its resistance to insects, termites and other pests.

If you shop for wood garden benches made with teak, be sure to check the thickness and strength of the wood used. Ideally, the older the teak, the better the quality. Young teak, which is considered to be any teak harvested less than ten years of age, is less durable than older teak. In fact, if you can find a bench made with teak that is 30 or more years of age when harvested, it should serve you well.

When cleaning your bench, use a brush that is rough enough to remove dirt but still soft enough that it will not cause scratches or damage. A mild cleaning solution works well on teak wood garden benches. Try a mixture of water with a small amount of bleach and laundry detergent. If this doesn't do the trick, try a commercial made teak cleaner, usually available at most outdoor furniture supply stores.

Year round enjoyment of your outdoor space will encourage togetherness and relaxation. Wood garden benches offer a great way to begin transitioning your garden or patio to year round use.
